Founded in 1976, Solohead is owned by Tipperary Cooperative Creamery and is operated as an experimental farm by Teagasc Moorepark Dairy Production Research Centre.
Situated in the key dairy production region of the Golden Vale, the core focus is on research and extension in low input milk production systems to improve the economic and environmental sustainability of dairy farms. Priority areas of research include increased use of clover, increased efficiency of fertilizer N use, improved management of wet soils and N cycling and losses from grazed grassland.
In extension, Solohead’s objective is to improve dairy farm management and demonstrate new management practices to help farmers meet their environmental obligations while improving profitability.
