To represent the farmers and to transfer information to them are the principal missions of the Chambers of Agriculture. The Chamber of Agriculture of Brittany through its network and its surveys is involved in agricultural policies. It puts forward the interests of farmers and agro-food industries.
Applied research is important with dairy production as the main activity. The transfer of the results to the farmers and advisers is also a priority. The research projects are led by 30 engineers and veterinaries, in collaboration with the French Livestock Institute (Institut de l’Elevage) and Brittany Milk Control.
Research is carried out on 2 experimental farms: Trévarez with 150 milking cows and Mauron which is specialized in beef production. The monitoring of demonstration farms is also an important activity. The main subjects are economics, organization of work, environment and the quality of products. The information is transferred by meetings and a monthly technical magazine (Cap Elevage) in 15 000 copies.
The Regional Chamber will be involved in all the actions of all WP’s, in close collaboration with the French Livestock Institute
